Mana Moana

  • Whairepo Lagoon 2 Taranaki Street Wellington, 6011 New Zealand (map)

A 20 minute collection of digital video artworks projected on a water screen, with narratives that explore relationships, journeys & encounters across Te Moana nui a Kiwa, the Pacific Ocean, as a collective of artists seek to invigorate their indigenous Moana relationships.

Artists include Robyn Kahukiwa, Tina Ngata, Dr Johnson Witehira, Rachael Rakena, Louise Potiki Bryant, Dr Karlo Mila, Michael Bridgman, Paddy Free, Warren Maxwell, Michelle Ngamoki, Dayle Takitimu, Rio Hemopo-Hunaki and Rosie Tapsell.

This exhibition asserts and upholds indigenous relationships and identities with the ocean. The artists seek to invigorate their indigenous Oceania relationships by upholding the mana of the moana. Sharing creation, connection, migration and diaspora narratives while imagining indigenous futures. In the face of our climate emergency this work is timely and relevant.
