Matariki is a celebration of culture, language, spirit and people.
Whānau and friends, on behalf of the Minaaka KARAKA Stage Collective we warmly invite you to join us as we celebrate the new Wellington City Council Matariki ki Pōneke event – AHI KĀ.
Come immerse yourself with local artists celebrating Matariki through song and dance, join the Poi workshops where you can learn single Poi movements, and be captivated by some amazing storytelling. Don’t miss the Nga Wai Pīata (Streams of Light) opening procession featuring children from seven regional schools, bearing hand-made light sculptures of creatures from the land and sea.
Whairepo lagoon will be transformed into a fiery reflection of the Seven Sisters Matariki constellation, known to astronomers as Pleiades.
